Firm will act on the four star score given to XF by Euro NCAP, but it's happy with car's safety

Jaguar has promised to act upon the disappointing four-star score awarded to its XF saloon in the most recent round of Euro NCAP safety tests.

Euro NCAP said the XF’s surprise score was limited by its adult and child occupant protection, and in the side pole impact test it found chest protection to be “weak and the car’s seat and head restraint provided marginal whiplash protection”.

Responding to Euro NCAP’s findings, a Jaguar spokesman said the firm was taking the issue “very seriously”. A facelift for the XF is due in 2012, and it’s highly likely the necessary revisions will be made to ensure it becomes a five star car for safety like its key rivals the Mercedes E-class and BMW 5-series.

“We’re looking at the safety results and how we can incorporate changes into future models,” the spokesman said. The spokesman also insisted the Jaguar XF “offered a high level of safety” and all of the firm’s in-house tests had recorded satisfactory results.

Re: Jag vows to improve XF safety

I rolled a Mk1 1955 Jag. hitting 3 concrete posts, pulling another 4 out of the ground and rolling down an embankment landing on the passenger side. Every body pannel was damaged, but I got out without a scrach; also the Jag. was 15yrs. old at the time.

Have Jag. taken a backward step?

P.S. I paid 40 quid for the SH Jag. Those were the days.

Re: Jag vows to improve XF safety

2 points

1. should it not be the JOB of JOURNALISTS to say hey "X makers are not willing to crash test their cars" after so many years?? Would not such "PRESS" be called something they used to call the "power of the press"? Would the power of the press alert and inform the public, and in turn cause a bit of a stink thereby pushing makers to make changes?

2. Why has no-one stated that a good reason the XF deforms in a crash is BECAUSE its based off a god awful and god old Ford/Lincoln/S-type Chassis?

Poor journalism. The power of the pen they say. j

Well I've crossed the Jag of my list. Whoever let it out of the factory without a benchmark safety rating should be ashamed of themselves. They've let our local car workers down and Tata, quite apart from the drivers whose companies lease them. Perhaps they did better on pedestrian safety - unlike the moster 4x4 all weather toboggans. I'll have to check.

What an ignorant statement.
