The Tokyo motor show has been radically overhauled, moving to a smaller venue and running more than a month later than its traditional start date.
The 2009 event was marked by the withdrawal of all but three minor European car makers, prompting rumours at the time that organisers had considered cancelling the show.
Now the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association has decided to run the show from late November 2011 - putting more time between it and the Frankfurt motor show - and holding it at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center, which is also known as Tokyo Big Sight.
The show had been held at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba since 1989, which is almost three times the size of the new location.
Organisers have also announced the exhibits will have a greater emphasis on transportation "in future societies".
