Honda has joined the ranks of manufacturers who have shown single-seater concept cars with the new 3R-C.

The 3-RC is an electric three-wheeler that has more in common with a motorbike than a car. The driver sits in the vehicle but their head will poke out of the top – the plastic canopy is only in place when the vehicle is parked.

When moving, the canopy forms a fairing around the driver. At the front of the vehicle is a lockable luggage compartment

Created by Honda’s European R and D operation in Milan, the 3R-C uses motorbike tyres, and a handlebar style-wheel to steer. It’s not intended for production, but does show that Honda is thinking about single-seater urban vehicles.

Nissan recently showed its Landglider concept, a tilting single-seater, while BMW recently revealed it had built a single seater concept car called Simple, but decided against showing it.

The trend for this type of vehicle is thought to be related to potential legislation in the US that could split lanes on multi-lane roads in two for use by these narrow single seaters.
