Detroit motor show: Dodge line-up

11 January 2010

This is the Dodge Nitro Detonator, perhaps the visually most striking of several mildly revised models from the Chrysler Group unveiled at today's Detroit motor show.

The raft of mildly revised line-ups revealed on the eve of Dodge's home show has drawn criticism in America, but the car maker has pointed out its new tie-up with Fiat and recent emergence from bankruptcy has prevented it investing in new models.

However, the new trim names are perhaps the most striking aspect of the new Nitro line-up; models will now be called Heat, Detonator and Shock. Other changes are minor, although all models will now come with a 256bhp 4.0-litre V6 as standard.

Other model revisions

The Dodge Viper SRT10 is in its final year of production, and the company is waving goodbye to the 588bhp 8.4-litre V10-engined supercar by shortening its fifth gear ratio for improved high-speed acceleration and releasing it in two new colour schemes - orange and silver. That takes the total number of colours available to 12, with six stripe options and five interior colours.

The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR racer, meanwhile, gets a new short-throw gearshift, a new rear wing profile and end plates and a new splitter.

The Dodge Caliber gets a revised interior, centred on new storage spaces and an all-new instrument panel that the company says "features a more integrated look and improved ergonomics." The car will also be available in two suspension tunes, one more sport orientated.

The Dodge Avenger and Dodge journey line-ups have also been overhauled, with prices reduced and kit levels increased.

Special editions

The Dodge Challenger R/T Classic and SRT8 performance coupe will be available as 'Plum Crazy' special editions. They are essentially the standard cars in a different body colour.
