New flagship Dodge Viper racer

Dodge has launched a new Viper race car for the iconic supercar's last year of production.
The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR-X has been designed to compete in a new 10-race, single-make race series in the US starting next July, the Dodge Viper Cup.

It is based on the street-legal Dodge Viper ACR (American Club Racer), but is more powerful and features a range of upgrades which ensure it cannot be used on the roads. Its 8.4-litre V10 engine has been tuned to produce 631bhp, 39bhp more than the production model. This power boost has mainly been achieved with the addition of a new low-friction exhaust system.
The ACR-X's suspension has been specially tuned for track use, while 72.57kg has been shed from its kerb weight. Aero upgrades have been added to boost downforce and cornering speeds. Additional safety equipment, a rollcage, a stripped out interior and special race seats complete the racing makeover.
Ralph Gilles, Dodge's CEO and president, said the car would ensure the Viper's last year in production would be a memorable one, with the new racing model being the culmination and flagship for all its experience in developing the Viper.
During testing, the ACR-X was consistently three seconds a lap faster around Laguna Seca than the road-going version, which currently holds the record for the fastest lap from a production car at the circuit.
Prices cost from $110,000 (£68,000) for the ACR-X, with the first deliveries starting in the spring.
