Second of ten tweaked supercars arrives in Dubai

The second £1.2 million Bertone Mantide has been sold to a buyer in Dubai.

Bertone, an Italian styling house, used the Corvette ZR1 as a base for the car, but has given it a different body, interior and shaved 100kgs from the kerb weight to add to the ’Vette’s already impressive performance.

Bertone claims that it has used both aeronautical and F1 influences to design the striking bodywork.

Wind-tunnel work has also paid dividends, as the drag has been reduced by 25 per cent over the donor car to 0.298. The Bertone Mantide also has a 30 per cent improvement in downforce over the ‘Vette.

Weight improvements have been wrought mainly through the use of lighter materials. It has carbonfibre body panels, interior trim, seats and wheels.

In total, ten Mantide's will be sold. The first buyer has not been named, although comedian Jay Leno is rumoured to be on the waiting list for a car.

Actually I prefer Killian’s and pizza so you can have the burger and Bud if you like or perhaps you are more apt to wrestle away fungus from a pig for your dinner time meal. I don't know what this has to do with Corvette except maybe the perception/stereotype that only Americans eat burgers and drink beer and Corvettes can't go around a bend. Let me save you some time by stating I don't believe all British cars leak oil or that the general population is dental hygienically challenged. You see if you can dispense with the myths all that remain are facts, the Corvette is a decent car for the money.

So you like (in your words) "mass produced crap" after all?

Theres something about a Corvette that makes me quite juvenile but that does not make them the most accomplished sports car that there is.

Nor does it make them mass produced crap as you put it. It’s just a car that an average Joe can aspire to own that generally outperforms others in its segment for a lot less money. The Vette is a working class hero, not a ruling class status symbol.

Here is some nice footage of this year’s 24 Hours of SPA where a single car Corvette team put the smack down on the three MC12 Vitaphone team hammering them by 11 laps, followed by the Gigawave Motorsports/ Nissan Motorsports Nissan GT-R that was 46 laps down from the Class leading Vette. Here is a nice video of the action, turn it up and enjoy…
