BMW launched its new 5-series saloon, finally, but the real eye-catcher was our road test of Top Gear's Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust electric car. Verdict? At least it's better than a G-Wiz...

Our spy photographers have been kept busy and have caught an early Lotus Esprit development mule testing in Norfolk, as well as the latest shots of the hot Mini diesels, Mercedes SLK and BMW 6-series.

The final design of Britain's 1000mph world land speed record contender, Bloodhound SSC, was revealed and Autocar caught up with project director Richard Noble for an exclusive chat about the team's plans.

Renault showed us the first car to carry the revived Gordini badge, the Renaultsport Twingo, which will go on sale next year and should be followed by Clio and Megane versions.

We've had first drives in two cars of particular interest this week, but both for very different reasons. Chevrolet's budget Spark city car impressed, but wasn't much fun to drive. Infiniti's EX37 GT was the first car from Nissan's luxury arm to undergo our full road test treatment and it impressed.

Michael Schumacher's 'will he won't he' move to Mercedes rumbled on this week, with the seven-time champion's future still no clearer. On the track - or rather the gravel - Kris Meeke won a thrilling Rally of Scotland before losing his win after the front subframe of his Peugeot 207 S2000 was found to be underweight. Guy Wilks inherited the win for Skoda.
