Schumacher's manager said the German held talks with Mercedes in Abu Dhabi

Michael Schumacher’s manager has confirmed the seven-time world champion has held talks with Mercedes’ bosses.

The German is hotly tipped to partner Nico Rosberg in the Mercedes GP team next season, after Rosberg was confirmed as the operation's first driver this morning.

Schumacher’s manager, Willi Weber, said yesterday that his man had met with Mercedes officials in Abu Dhabi earlier this month.

“I know that Michael spoke with [Mercedes CEO] Dieter Zetsche and [Mercedes motorsport boss] Norbert Haug at the season's finale in Abu Dhabi,” he said.

Schumacher himself is staying silent on the speculation and he is currently competing at a karting event in Las Vegas. Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn is currently away on holiday, so no quick decision on the team’s second driver is expected.

Schumacher’s official spokeswoman, Sabine Kehm, told The Times that she thought the ex-Ferrari driver could be tempted into a return, despite admitting it was still “unlikely”

“I can see lots of tempting things in it for Michael,” she said, “but I can also see a lot of non-tempting things. I don’t know. It is as it was in August [with the Ferrari comeback] when you couldn’t tell what was going to happen.

“Then I was convinced Michael would never come back and, suddenly, all the circumstances were right for him. I still think it is unlikely, but you never know.”

Re: Schuey 'held talks with Mercedes'

I have noticed that all the F1 champions have the best engineers and designers, at the time. So how much is down to driving ability.

All the F1 teams obviously need some accountants. Ferrari is paying Kimi 20 million euros not to drive ! And how much is Mclaren paying Jenson. And what will Schumachers salary be. Makes sense, in these cost cutting days.
