Pininfarina plans electric car

Pininfarina has confirmed it will put is all-electric Bluecar into limited production next year.
The Pininfarina Bluecar, first seen at the Paris motor show last year, is part of a joint venture between the Italian styling firm and Bollore. Full series production will take place between 2011 and 2017 and the firms plan to produce 60,000 units per year by 2015.

The four-seater, five-door mini-MPV uses lithium-polymere batteries, which are combined to an energy storage device. This retrieves and stores energy during braking and makes it available when the vehicle re-starts. This means greater acceleration, an increased range and longer lifespan for the car’s battery.
The batteries can be recharged at the mains and has a claimed range of 155 miles. The battery life is claimed to be just shy of 125,000 miles and Pininfarina say they will need no maintenance throughout their lifespan.
