Toyota has raised its global sales forecast for the year to March 2010 by three per cent due to a recovery in the new car sales market.

The Japanese firm is the world’s largest auto maker and it now plans to sell 6.7 million cars for the year to March 2010.

It has also increased its global production by eight per cent to 6.45m vehicles for 2009/10 due to the popularity of its low emission cars, such as the new third-generation Prius.

Sales in its native Japan have been boosted by subsidies offered on the purchase of low emission cars and Toyota has called on the government to extend the scheme until March 2012.
