Sports package launched to go with its new sports chassis

Volvo has launched an updated version of its C30 R-Design.

A facelifted C30 was launched by the Swedish firm last week and it will be equipped with a new sports chassis. Volvo claims the new package will give the C30 “a dynamic driving experience to match its sporty appearance”.

Dynamic changes include the lowering of the ride height by 10 millimetres, resulting in a lower centre of gravity. Stiffer bushes have been added and the steering ratio is lower, giving it 10 per cent quicker faster response to steering wheel input.

Spring stiffness has been increased by 30 per cent and its roll stabilizers are also stiffer to reduce body roll when cornering. Volvo has developed the new chassis in Sweden, Germany and in the UK.

Exterior changes to the R-Design C30 over the base model include new badges, new grille and mirror housings, a body kit with front and rear spoilers, a new chrome tailpipe and 17-inch alloys.

Interior changes include leather seats, leather and aluminium gear knob, a leather steering wheel, aluminium pedals, R-Design badges and new sports floor mats.

Prices have yet to be announced, but they are expected to start from around £15,000 when it goes on sale in early 2010.
