Barrichello wins Italian GP

13 September 2009

Brawn driver Rubens Barrichello made the most of a one-stop fuel strategy to edge out team-mate Jenson Button in the Italian Grand Prix.

The Brawn duo trailed Lewis Hamilton (McLaren), Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) and Adrian Sutil (Force India) in the initial stages - but all three of the leading trio were on two-stop fuel strategies and fell back as the stops played out.

There was added drama in the closing stages as Button, running second, was forced to fend off the attacking Hamilton.

The McLaren driver had got to within a second of Button heading in to the final laps, but never got a chance to try and pass as he crashed out midway round the lap, bringing out the safety car.

Title-challenging Red Bull has a miserable race: Mark Webber crashed out on lap one, while team-mate Sebastian Vettel scored just one point, in eighth.
