Volkswagen has revealed revised BlueMotion versions of its Polo, Golf and Passat models, at the Frankfurt motor show.

The Polo Bluemotion has a 74bhp 1.2-litre engine, and uses efficiency-boosting measures including longer gearing, stop-start technology and regenerative brakes to achieve emissions of 87g/km of Co2 and average 85.6mpg. These represent improvements of 12 per cent and 15 per cent respectively over the previous BlueMotion Polo, but power is down 5bhp.

The Golf Bluemotion is powered by the same 1.6 four-cylinder engine as before, but economy improves from 68.9mpg to 74.3mpg, and emissions drop to 99g/km of Co2.

The two-litre TDI unit in the existing Passat BlueMotion is swapped for the Golf’s 1.6, but power is only down by 3 per cent to 104bhp. It emits 114g/km of Co2 and averages 64.2mpg.

The revised BlueMotion Polo, Golf and Passat will go on sale in early 2010.

Prices haven't been announced, but premiums over base models should remain about the same.
