Hummer sale 'will go ahead'

24 August 2009

Hummer's sale to Chinese company Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery is now expected to go ahead.

Speculation had suggested that the Chinese government would block the purchase on the grounds that the heavy machinery manufacturer had no experience of car sales, but industry reports now suggest it will go through this autumn.

This follows an announcement from China's commerce ministry, which said Tengzhong's plans were normal for a company seeking to take advantage of the global downturn

Should that happen, Tengzhong has announced it will maintain Hummer's dealership network.

"There will be no change in Hummer's existing global sales network and the quality of its after sales services after the completion of the deal," a Tengzhong spokesman told the Reuters news agency.
