Tesla has launched an incentive scheme in the US to try and sell more of its Roadster models.

Customers who have bought a Tesla Roadster or who have an order for a Tesla Model S saloon can claim a $500 (£300) cheque if they get someone they know to place an order for a Roadster.

The cheques will only be issued to referrers once their affiliates have taken delivery of their new Roadster.

Tesla is looking to sell more of its Roadsters as sales have stalled at around 1300 units per year, despite the model now being sold in markets including Canada and Europe.
