Nissan has developed a new safety system that pushes the accelerator up if a corner is entered too fast.
The technology, called ‘Navigation-Cooperative Intelligent Pedal’ (NCIP), reads the road ahead using GPS and applies pressure against the driver’s foot if it decides the car is travelling too quickly.
Once the throttle is eased off, NCIP automatically applies the brakes. Nissan claims the system is a world first and believes it “reduces the driver's workload on curvy roads by integrating navigation, accelerator pedal, powertrain and brakes”.
NCIP is being introduced on the new Fuga saloon, along with Active Stability Assist (ASA), which automatically applies braking force to each of the four wheels depending on the radius of the curve.
It also distributes torque to each of the wheels to help make the car smoother and easier to drive.
