Fiat is not interested in saving the Bertone name should its offer for the struggling Italian manufacturer be accepted, according to a Fiat spokesman.

Fiat confirmed it was bidding for coachbuilder Carrozzeria Bertone earlier this week and it is one of five firms in the running to take over. Bertone is currently in administration and it is up to a Turin court to decide which bid to accept.

“We are not interested in the Bertone brand or company, only in the Grugliasco production facility and workforce,” said the Fiat spokesman.

Other firms believed to be bidding for Bertone include Italian entrepreneur Gianmario Rossignolo, Chinese car maker FAW Group Corp and an unnamed Spanish consortium. The deadline for bids was yesterday and the court will announce its decision next week.
