Photos of upcoming model taken in factory

These are the first images of the production ready Alfa Romeo Milano, which have leaked out of the factory after they were posted on Facebook.

The car takes clear styling cues from the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizone, and includes details such as hidden rear door handles, as on the current 147.

Reports suggest the Milano is slightly wider and lower than the current 147, which it will replace. The car is built on the latest version of Fiat's Group's C- and D-segment platform, which is called C-Evo. The platform will also be used on new cars in the United States, including the upcoming Chrysler Sebring replacement.

Alfa's revolutionary Multiair engines will be compatible with the adapted platform. The car is also expected to be available with Alfa's AMT dual-clutch tranmission. Front and four-wheel drive variants have also been mooted.

The Milano is expected to go on sale early in 2010, after its launch was put back because of the current economic climate.

Alfa Romeo has confirmed that it is moving away from giving its cars numbers rather than names. Court filings during Chrysler's bankruptcy show the 147 will become the Milano, and the next 159 the Giulia.
