Porsche 917 stars at Goodwood

Porsche is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its legendary 16-time Le Mans winner, the Porsche 917, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Several Porsche 917s from the firm’s museum collection will be on show and Goodwood in the “True Grit – Epic Feats of Endurance” exhibition, including the 1970 Le Mans winner and the distinctively-liveried 917/20 ‘Pink Pig’.

Ex-Porsche racing drivers will also be reunited with some of the cars they raced at Le Mans. Richard Attwood, former F1 driver and 1970 Le Mans winner for Porsche, will be driving a 917 and sports car legend Brian Redman will be drive a 917/30 CanAm racer.

David Piper, who bought a 917 new from the factory in 1969, will be driving his own car; and Jackie Oliver, who won Le Mans in 1969, will be reunited with an evocative Gulf-liveried 917.
