Evora to hit production limit

06 July 2009

Lotus will ramp up Evora production to 2000 cars a year within the next few months, with first deliveries starting before September.

A company spokesman told Autocar that “several hundred deposits” have now been taken worldwide for the Evora with other orders pending a test drive.

The first 450 cars are Launch Editions fitted with bi-xenon headlights, a reverse camera and a high-spec sound system. Demonstrators are currently being sent out to dealers across Europe.

The spokesman said: “We can say that we have several hundred orders worldwide and are ramping up production steadily. Planned full volume production is 2000 cars a year, and we'll reach that in the next few months.”

The first cars off the line will be standard 276bhp Evoras but the company is planning to extend the range to a convertible version, due within the next three years, and a top-spec model with 350bhp on tap.

Lotus is also said to be lining up motorsport-based versions of the car, in a similar fashion to the hardcore Exiges currently on sale.
