Suzuki says it has updated the safety features on its Alto supermini after gaining a disappointing three Euro NCAP stars out of five in latest tests.
The new car was marked down for “adult occupant protection, child protection and safety assistance performance”.

Suzuki has responded to the low score for safety assistance performance in the NCAP test by agreeing to fit ESP as an option to one of the three lower model grades.
A spokesman said: “In this segment three stars is a good result and we take safety very seriously.”
The five other cars in the latest results published by Euro NCAP received the maximum five stars available. These are the Audi Q5, Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, Kia Soul and Peugeot 3008.
From 2009, Euro NCAP’s new overall rating covers adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection and safety assist.
Michiel van Ratingen, secretary general of Euro NCAP, said: “At the heart of the new rating scheme is the objective to offer consumers a full picture of a car’s overall safety performance.”
