Unveiled at the annual Worthersee gathering of VW and Audi enthusiasts, the Golf gets lowered suspension to improve handling and a new sports exhaust system.

It comes in “Firespark Metallic” paint, features 19-inch alloys with a red stripe running around the edge, and gets smoked LED tail lights.

Inside there are aluminium tread plates with a “GTI Worthersee 09” logo and trim in brushed aluminium.

The seats come in contrasting black and red nappa leather with “Berry White” leather piping.

VW says the Polo hints at a future performance model, although the upgrades are limited to new 18-inch “Budapest” alloy wheels and a dark grille, lower bumper insert and headlights.

Inside there are high-gloss steering accents and leather seats.
