Vauxhall is safe, says GM

General Motors is not thinking of selling Vauxhall, because the UK is the company’s biggest European market, according to GM’s new CEO Fritz Henderson.
Speaking at a press conference in Detroit called to discuss GM’s latest restructuring plan, Henderson said the company has no intention of offloading Vauxhall.
“We have no interest in expanding Vauxhall beyond the UK and never had interest in changing Vauxhall in the UK,” he said.
Henderson also confirmed that GM is talking to a number of parties about investing in Vauxhall/Opel, although he wouldn’t say who they were.
It is almost certain that, if GM were to sell Opel to Fiat, Vauxhall would have to go with Opel. GM would not close down the UK-based manufacturer – as it has Oldsmobile and plans to do with Pontiac.
