A life-size model of the winning entry from the Peugeot Design Competition was unveiled today at the Shanghai Motor Show.

The brainchild of Columbian Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar, the Peugeot RD concept aims to "combine the sensation of a three-wheeled scooter with the driving pleasure of a saloon car."

The car, powered by an electric motor positioned behind the cabin and in front of the rear wheels, offers the driver panoramic views via an open-sided cabin with a glass roof.

It’s also hinged in the middle, which Peugeot says helps its roadholding.

The fifth annual contest challenged entrants to, "Imagine the Peugeot in the worldwide megalopolis of tomorrow."

Entrants had to devise a Peugeot for use in the centre of "the great cities of the future".

More than 2500 designs were submitted for consideration and ten finalists were selected by an internet poll last August.
