Laurens van den Acker will join Renault as vice president of corporate design later this year.

The 43-year-old recently resigned from his post at Mazda, where he had been general manager of design since 2006. He has previously worked for Ford and Audi.

He will start work at Renault in May, before taking on the role of vice president of corporate design from September.

Van den Acker will replace Patrick le Quement, 64, who is retiring as senior vice president of Renault Corporate Design.

Although le Quement, who has worked for Renault for 22 years, is credited with taking the company's designs in a more distinctive direction, he will be remembered by many for quirkier models such as the Avantime and Vel Satis.
