The wraps have come off the Kia Koup - the company’s first ever two-door coupe.

The car was unveiled at the New York motor show and closely resembles the KOUP concept, which starred at last year’s event.

It will be available with two engines, a 2.0-litre DOHC four-cylinder, producing 156bhp and 144lb ft of torque, and a 2.4-litre in-line four, with 173bhp and 168lb ft of torque.

The Koup uses the same front-drive platform as the four-door Forte, with independent front suspension with MacPherson struts, anti-roll bar and a torsion beam rear axle.

The steering is sensitive to engine speed and Kia is claiming “precise, sporting” handling.

The Koup EX comes with body-coloured bumpers, heated wing mirrors with integrated indicators and 16-inch alloy wheels fitted with 205/55 R16 tyres.

The higher SX comes with 17-inch alloy wheels paired with 215/45 R17 tyres.

At present the Koup is only planned for the US market and will not be coming to Europe.
