Volvo’s design chief, Steve Mattin, has quit the company, parent company Ford has confirmed.

British-born Mattin has been design director at Volvo since 2005 and is credited with the current Volvo corporate look, which started with the C30 and developed with the flowing curves and bold features of the Volvo XC60 SUV.

Before joining Volvo, Mattin was on the design team at Mercedes for 17 years where he worked on, among other projects, the SLK, SLR R-class and Maybach designs.

It is uncertain at the moment as to whether Mattin’s departure has anything to do with Ford’s imminent sale of Volvo.
