Peugeot sells off its classics

Peugeot is to auction off more than 50 of its rare road and race cars from its l’Aventure Peugeot motor museum collection.
All models sold will be duplicates from its collection, but the auction list will include road cars dating back to 1920.
Museum director Loic Henouil has said the sale is not linked to current economic situation. He has stated that the funds raised will be used to purchase cars missing from its collection.
Lots in the 14 June auction include concept cars and early passenger cars, as well as a 1990s Jordan-Peugeot Formula One car and a late-1980s Peugeot 405 T16 rally car.
The museum, based in Sochaux in eastern France, opened 21 years ago and contains more than 750 cars, motorbikes and bicycles dating back 150 years, as well as thousands of other products manufactured by the firm.
Peugeot’s auction is the second this year from a major motor manufacturer.
General Motors sold 250 rare cars from its American Heritage Fleet in January, again insisting it was not related to raising funds to cope with the global recession.
