BMW blackmailer pleads guilty

The man accused of blackmailing BMW heiress Susanne Klatten has pleaded guilty to charges of blackmail at his trial in Munich.

Helg Sgarbi is accused of extorting money from Klatten, Germany’s richest woman, after threatening to release footage of their affair onto the internet. Swiss-born Sgarbi is also accused of blackmailing three other women.

Klatten owns a 12.5 per cent stake in BMW, and is believed to be the 55th-richest woman in the world. Sgarbi now faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
