The i MiEV Sport Air is based on the mid-engined, rear-drive running gear of the Mitsubishi i MiEV (the electric version of the company’s quirky i city car), but the electric motor generates 60kW (80bhp) and 170lb ft of torque instead of 47kW (63bhp) and 133lb ft.
The i MiEV Sport Air further pushes the promise of a sporty drive by locating all the main powertain components as low as possible, and by featuring a (removable) roof panel made from lightweight plastic.
Mitsubishi won’t quote an exact weight, but with an i MIEV weighing 1080kg (of which 200kg is the battery pack and motor) the Sport Air tips the scales at around 650kg.
And that weight saving helps to up the Sport Air’s potential performance and range. It will cover 124 miles on a single charge.
Plastic body panels also help to reduce the weight of the i MiEV Sport Air, while the rear suspension is made from lightweight aluminium.
