Jaguar halts Castle Bromwich production

Jaguar has suspended production at its Castle Bromwich factory to reduce stockpiling but will use the time to refit its lines to allow production of 2010 models.
Workers at the site, where the XF, XJ and XK models are built, have only just returned from an extended three-week shutdown over Christmas, but will now have two weeks of training as production stops once again.
Jaguar will use the time to prepare for production of the new models launched at the Detroit motor show that include the Jaguar XF-R and a range of new diesel engines.
“The Castle Bromwich shutdown is a combination of taking volume out to avoid stock piling, but also to allow the model lines to change. When they [the workers] come back we’ll be starting production of the 2010 model cars,” said Don Hume, Jaguar’s corporate affairs director.
During the shutdown, Jaguar Land Rover bosses and union representatives will also be discussing ways of avoiding further job losses.
Jaguar Land Rover announced last week that it was to make 300 managerial staff and a further 150 agency workers redundant across the company.
