Cadillac has unveiled President Barack Obama's new limo, scheduled to make its first public appearance at his inauguration parade next week.

The new Cadillac Presidential Limousine has been completely redesigned, and will replace President Bush's DTS limo that has been in service since 2004. The new limo adopts several aspects of Cadillac's current design language, bearing a strong resemblance to the STS saloon.

Unsurprisingly the US Secret Service is tight-lipped about the exact specifications of the new Presidential car, nicknamed 'The Beast'. Along with bulletproof glass, run-flat tyres and an armoured body, Obama's new limo is expected to have a completely sealed interior with an independent oxygen supply to protect against chemical attacks.

The bulletproof glass will stop armour-piercing rounds, while security experts anticipate the reinforced body should protect against bomb blasts and rocket propelled grenade attack.

President Obama will sit in a custom-made interior, partially built by hand, that includes a state-of-the-art communications system and mobile office.

Assistant Director for the Office of Protective Operations, Nicholas Trotta, said: "It is safe to say that this car's security and coded communications systems make it the most technologically advanced protection vehicle in the world."

Cadillac has a long history supplying special vehicles for the Commander in Chief, dating back to President Wilson in 1919.
