The Suzuki Kizashi has been cancelled, according to reports in the Japanese business press. The reports follow comments from Suzuki’s boss regarding the cancellation of the mid-sized family car.

In September Suzuki CEO Osamu Suzuki hinted that the firm was thinking about canning the Kizashi.

Now the continued failure of the global car market is said to be the cause for Suzuki’s decision to pull the plug on the Kizashi, which was going to be a family saloon aimed at the likes of the Ford Mondeo.

Suzuki has been hit particularly hard by a downturn in sales in India, where it is the market leader courtesy of its joint venture with local firm Maruti.

The four-door Kizashi, previewed by several concept cars and due for launch next year, was to be joined by an estate, too, and would have used a V8 engine in the US market.
