Sebastien Loeb won his third Race of Champions title on Sunday after defeating David Coulthard in a closely contested final at Wembley Stadium.

The retired Formula One driver fought back from one race down to take the best of three final to a decider.

But Coulthard was ultimately unable to match Loeb’s pace in the RoC buggies, finishing 0.321sec behind the Frenchman.

Despite missing out on an opportunity to finish his final season in style, Coulthard said he was happy with second place.

"It's not too bad to be beaten by a five-time world rally champion," he said. "I'm just happy to have made the final with so many good drivers here."

The other drivers included Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, who powered to victory as Team Germany in the Nations Cup.

Schumacher failed to replicate the success in the individual competition. He was eliminated by NASCAR racer Carl Edwards in the biggest upset of the evening.
