Nissan has announced that it is to pull out of both the Detroit and Chicago motor shows next year in an effort to reduce costs.

Several other manufacturers, including Porsche, Suzuki and Mitsubishi, have already removed themselves from the Detroit show floor, but Nissan and sister brand Infiniti are the first to pull out of the less prestigious Chicago motor show.

Alan Buddendeck, spokesman for Nissan, said that the shows were "not the best way to invest marketing money".

Nissan recently unveiled the Nissan Cube and 370Z sports car at the Los Angeles motor show, as well as the Infiniti G37 convertible, but it has taken the decision to cancel its places at the other US events due to a lack of other new models.
