Honda has offered seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher a ride in next year’s World Superbike Championship.

Since retiring from Formula One in 2006, Schumacher has entered a number of superbike races, as well as testing for the Ducati MotoGP team.

"Michael believes the German championship is right for him at the moment," Honda Racing's Carlo Fiorani told Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper, "but if he wants to race in the 2009 world championship, there is a way. All he has to do is ask us."

Schumacher scored an impressive fourth place in his debut bike race in March, despite slipping down the field to 10th after being blocked on the first corner.

The German ace has since made a number of appearances on two wheels including an eight-hour team race in the FIM World Endurance Championship, his first endurance event.
