The lavish Spyker D12 Peking to Paris SUV will go into production next year, three years after its launch at the 2006 Geneva motor show.

The monster SUV, which uses a Volkswagen W12 engine and shares the ostentatious design with which the brand has become synonymous, has a claimed 0-60mph time of 5.0sec and a top speed of 185mph.

Despite the high specification and a confirmed price of £186,000, the firm says demand for the car continues ‘unabated’ in the current global economic crisis.

The Dutch supercar company has also installed a new line at its Zeewolde factory to build cars more quickly and efficiently. Previously, individual Spykers were built by a team of workers; now the cars are constructed on a conventional production line.
