Caterham owners have named the A57 between Sheffield and Glossop as Britain’s best driving road in a survey.
Known as ‘The Snake Pass’, the road crosses the Pennines, rising to over 500 metres above sea level and taking in the National Trust’s High Peak Estate. It is also one of the most dangerous sections of road in the region, with a high accident rate and occasional landslides. The A537 to Buxton took second place in the poll, with third spot going to the notorious A18 ‘Mountain Section’ of the Isle of Man TT course.
Participants also voted for their least favourite road; unsurprisingly the M25 took the honour, with over 31 per cent of those questioned choosing Junctions 5 to 21 of London’s orbital motorway.
