Nissan has announced that its new city car will be called the Pixo, and will be unveiled at the Paris show in October.

The five-door Nissan Pixo will be based on the recently revealed Suzuki Alto (pictured) and will fill the A-segment sized hole in Nissan’s current range, measuring 3565mm long, 1470mm tall and 1600mm wide.

Due to go on sale in 2009, it will compete with other small city cars such as the Hyundai i10.

Nissan claims the Pixo will be “among the best value eco-cars in the class”, using an efficient three-cylinder 1.0-litre engine and lightweight construction to ensure low running costs and dynamics.

A revised Nissan Note will appear alongside the Pixo and Nuvu at the Paris show this October.

The popular mini-MPV has received a new front end designed to give a more premium look, and a new central instrument panel for clearer use of the car’s controls.

Other significant changes include improved suspension to aid ride comfort, and the 1.4-litre Note will receive revised gear ratios for lower emissions.
