Peugeot has unveiled the top 29 entrants in its annual Peugeot Design Competition.

Young designers from all over the world have submitted designs for their vision of a future vehicle for the ‘metropolis of tomorrow’. This year’s competition required entrants to consider what future transport for large urban cities might look like and to consider the key values of the 21st century.

Designs for this year’s competition had to follow four main criteria; environmentally friendliness, social harmony, interactive mobility and economic efficiency. Over 2,500 entries were received from all over the world, with the shortlisted designs displaying much of the innovation that has marked the competition out in previous years.

One of the wildest is the Chinese-designed ‘P.R.O’, inspired by a water droplet and featuring a 180-degree combined door-window. Other innovative designs include the E Cube from Korea, inspired by human bone structure, and the highly ambitious, electrically powered Rugir concept, the design of which incorporates a motor with a sound inspired by the roar of the Peugeot lion.

The winner will be announced at the Paris Motor Show in October and will be produced as a full-scale model, to be displayed at the 2009 Shanghai Motor Show.
