Chrysler has announced that long servicing design boss Trevor Creed is retiring, and he will be replaced in the top job by Ralf Gilles, the man who styled the 300C saloon.
Gilles’ other design credits include the current Chrysler Voyager and the Jeep Trailhawk. The 37-year old has worked on many of the company’s hit designs since he joined in 1992. But his new design fiefdom has lost one of its creative crucibles – the Pacifica studio in California, which was closed and sold to Mercedes-Benz last year.
British-born Creed joined Chrysler in 1985, taking over as design boss in 2000. He worked on many of the legion of headline-stealing concepts that were created across Chrysler’s various brands in the mid-90s; designs that made the company one of the most creative of the era, under the leadership of then design chief Tom Gale.
Two other veteran Chrysler designers who also worked under Gale in Chrysler’s creative heyday left last year — Dave McKinnon and Tom Tremont.
