Chevrolet has unveiled its Camaro cabriolet concept at the London motor show.

The new Camaro plays shamelessly on the nostalgia associated with its classic forebears, but has been remade for the demands of the modern market. The good news is that we’ll be getting right-hand-drive UK-spec cars by 2010, and the cabriolet not long afterwards. "It's a Camaro for the new millennium, not just a retro-mobile but a beautiful design in its own right," said GM vice-president Bob Lutz at the Excel unveiling.

Power comes from an appropriately old-school 6.2-litre LS2 V8, which will put out well in excess of 400bhp, and that’s before the high-performance SS model that is rumoured to be in the works already.

Chevy is trying to get the price of the Camaro coupe below £30k, which makes it a mouth-watering prospect in the UK for anyone looking for a modern take on the muscle car. Just don’t think about the fuel economy.
