It will soon be possible to compete in a live Grand Prix from the comfort of your living room.A Netherlands company has developed software that works with GPS satellites to virtually replicate what’s happening in an F1 race in a computer game, allowing gamers to challenge the world’s best drivers.
"It's clear that the next trend in gaming is going to be bringing real objects into the virtual world; playing not against other gamers but people doing the real thing," said Andy Lurling, founder of iOpener Media.
GPS technology pin-points an F1 car’s progress during a race to within 30 centimetres and conveys the information back over the internet to powerful modern computer consoles.
The firm plans to sell the technology to a computer games manufacturer.
