Seat’s new Ibiza supermini has been awarded a maximum five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test. The Ibiza scored well in child and passenger protection tests after the frontal, side and pole impact tests, notching up an overall score of 94 per cent.

In the pedestrian trials the new Seat was awarded three stars out of four, outscoring competitors like the Mini Cooper, Skoda Fabia and Fiat 500. The NCAP report said, “The bumper scored maximum points for the protection it offered to pedestrians' legs. The bonnet was rated predominantly fair for its protection of a child's head.”

All new Ibizas are fitted as standard with driver and passenger airbags and a new head thorax airbags, which do the job of both side and curtain airbags.

Price and specification details on the new Ibiza, the first car to use the platform that will underpin the next Polo, will be announced shortly before its full UK introduction on 16 July.
