The Ford Kuga has raced to the top of the Euro NCAP safety ratings. The Kuga scored five stars for adult occupant protection, four stars for child occupant protection and three stars for pedestrian impact protection.

This gave it a total of 91 points (33+38+20), placing the Kuga at the top of the Small Off-road 4x4 class. The class-leading position was previously held by the Volkswagen Tiguan on 90 points.

Land Rover's Freelander 2 beats both vehicles for occupant protection but offers little pedestrian impact protection.

The Ford Kuga "scored maximum points for its performance in the side impact and pole tests," reported Euro NCAP. "The bumper also scored maximum points for its protection of pedestrians' legs."
