Autocar magazine won the specialist magazine of the year award at last night’s PPA awards for editorial and publishing excellence.
Haymarket’s weekly car title beat off strong competition from the likes of Empire, Homes and Gardens and Conde Nast Traveller in the UK’s top mag awards.
The judging panel were swayed by Autocar’s complete redesign last year and subsequent rise in circulation, describing it as "a significantly successful reinvention in a tough and declining market". They also called it "visually exciting".
Autocar editor Chas Hallett said: "This is a brilliant result. It just goes to show that the traditional car mag is far from dead yet and with a brilliant team involved you can make great strides."
Patrick Fuller, publishing director of Autocar, said: "A few of us were lucky enough to be at Grosvenor House last night to hear the announcement, but each and every one of the Autocar team deserves to share the credit for this remarkable team effort. For a brand like Autocar, with 113 years under its belt and countless relaunches to its name, the achievement is exceptional.”
