This bold concept from First Automobile Work’s upmarket Hong Qi division hints at a high-end four-wheel drive that officials say is planned to go into production by 2010, at a price that will pitch it directly against the likes of the Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz GL.
Few details are known about the big five-seater, which boasts more than a hint of Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator in its front end. However, Hong Qi confirmed to Autocar that the new upmarket SUV has been conceived to run a V12 engine of unspecified capacity in top-of-the-line guise and, as a clear signal that parent company FAW intends taking on some of the world’s most established car makers at their own game, said it will come with all the latest in automotive technology.
With assets estimated at more than $12.4 billion and a history stretching back over 55 years, parent company FAW has the financial clout to see them through. At this early stage, there are no plans to market the Hong Qi four-wheel drive outside of China.
