Jaguar's US sales were poor in 2007, with sales down to 24.2 per cent on 2006, but the first month of 2008 has seen even deeper, new lows.

Last month saw only 664 Jaguar sales in North America – the lowest monthly result since November 1992, when only 616 cars were sold. That's a massive 52.2 per cent fewer sales than January 2007.

Reasons for the dire results are put down to the withdrawal of the X-type. Coupé sales are notoriously slow in the winter, hence the XK's poor performance, and the XJ is becoming dated.

Essentially, the firm's US operation is on hold until the new XF arrives to give it a new lease of life, and hopefully some record sales of a more positive nature.
