The first buyers of Aston Martin's new DBS flagship are still waiting for their cars to be delivered, but the firm is already working on the next model in the range: a convertible.

The drop-top version of the Vanquish replacement, likely to be called DBS Volante, was spied undergoing cold-weather testing in Sweden. It's fitted with the same 6.0-litre, V12 powerplant as a regular DBS, giving it a potential 0-62mph time of just over four seconds.

Aston clearly believes it can shirk the current trend for folding hard-top cabrios and fit a regular fabric roof while still retaining enough rigidity. The car's side windows have been altered too - presumably to ensure a snug fit for the hood - but the rest of the DBS's styling appears unaltered.

Aston has yet to even confirm that the DBS exists, but the advanced state of this prototype leads us to suspect that it will show the car sometime this year, with sales starting in 2009.
