Luca De Meo, currently Chief Marketing Officer of the Fiat Group, has become the new CEO of Alfa Romeo.

He replaces Antonio Baravelle, who was Alfa's CEO for two years before resigning in order to join an Italian media group.

Sergio Marchionne, Fiat Group's CEO, said that "the commitment, passion and determination with which Luca De Meo faces great challenges is the best guarantee for Alfa Romeo's relaunch plan."

De Meo played a significant role in the relaunch of the Fiat brand over the last three years, and the success of that illustrates how well suited he is to the job of developing Alfa Romeo.

De Meo will retain his position at the Fiat Group as well as taking on the new role.
